Sending texts to patient’s mobiles ensures efficient communication between providers and patients. Follow these steps:
There are three ways to send an SMS to a patient in EMR
Through the Patient Tab
Through Patient Profile
Through Patient Encounter
Steps to Send Texts (SMS) to a Patient in EMR:
Through the Patient Tab
Step 1: Access the Patient Tab
From the main dashboard, click on “Patient Tab.”
Step 2: In the Patients Tab:
Search the patient’s name.
Step 3: In the Patients Tab:
Click on SMS icon.
Step 4: Compose the Text
Fill in the message details:
Use a Template: Choose a pre-existing Text Template and click “Use” to autofill the message content.
Customize the SMS: Write a personalized message in the SMS Box.
Step 5: Send the SMS
Click on “Send” to dispatch the SMS to the patient’s mobile.

Through Patient Profile
Step 1: Access the Patient Tab
From the main dashboard, click on “Patient Tab.”
Step 2: In the Patients Tab:
Search and select the patient’s name.
Step 3: Open the text Interface
Click on the SMS Icon to initiate a SMS through the patient portal.
Step 4: Compose the Text
Fill in the message details:
Use a Template: Choose a pre-existing Text Template and click “Use” to autofill the message content.
Customize the SMS: Write a personalized message in the SMS Box.
Step 5: Send the SMS
Click on “Send” to dispatch the SMS to the patient’s mobile.

Step 1: Access the Consults Tab
From the main dashboard, click on “Consults.”
Step 2: In the Consults Tab:
Search and select the patient’s name.
Step 3: Click on SMS icon.
Step 4: Compose the Text
Fill in the message details:
Use a Template: Choose a pre-existing Text Template and click “Use” to autofill the message content.
Customize the SMS: Write a personalized message in the SMS Box.
Step 5: Send the SMS
Click on “Send” to dispatch the SMS to the patient’s mobile.
This feature ensures reliable communication with patients, enabling them to stay informed and engaged in their care plan.
Text messaging is not HIPAA compliant, and unencrypted SMS messages should not be used for communicating ePHI unless a patient has initiated contact by SMS or requested provider-patient communications by text message – in which case healthcare providers can use text messaging provided reasonable safeguards are applied.
