How to Disable Patient Portal Access & In-App Messaging
Objective:
To restrict a patient’s access to the patient portal and/or disable in-app messaging from the patient portal.
Restrict Patient Portal Access & Disable Messaging
Go to Dashboard → Open the Patient Profile.
Navigate to Basic Details.
Scroll to the bottom of the page.
Locate the following options that are enabled (checked) by default:
“Patient can send in-app portal messages to the practice”
“Patient can access the patient portal”
5. Modify Based on Your Requirement
A. “Patient can access the patient portal”
A1. Uncheck portal access → disables patient login
Result:
If Patient Portal Access is disabled:
The patient will not be able to log in to the portal
They will see an error message when attempting to access the portal
B. “Patient can send in-app portal messages to the practice”
B1. Uncheck messaging → disables in-app communication
Result:
If In-App Messaging is disabled:
The patient will not be able to send messages to the practice through the portal
Click Save Patient Information.
✅ Result: Patient will no longer be able to log in to the patient portal and/or message the practice from the patient portal.
Outcome
Patient will no longer be able to:
Access the patient portal (if disabled)
Send messages via the portal (if disabled)

This feature allows you to control patient access and communication, ensuring better management of portal usage and practice workflow.
