How to Take a Screenshot on Windows and Mac

Overview

You can easily capture screenshots on both Windows and Mac devices using built-in tools. Follow the steps below based on your operating system.


For Windows

  1. Press Windows + Shift + S on your keyboard.

  2. Your screen will dim, and a small toolbar will appear at the top.

  3. Select the area of the screen you want to capture.

  4. The screenshot is automatically copied to your clipboard.

  5. You can paste it (Ctrl + V) into an email, chat, or document.

💡 Tip: If you want to save the file directly, open the Snipping Tool or Snip & Sketch app and use the Save option.

For Mac

  1. Press Command (⌘) + Shift + 4 to capture a selected area.

    • Drag to select the area you want to capture.

  1. Press Command (⌘) + Shift + 3 to capture the entire screen.

  2. The screenshot will be automatically saved to your Desktop by default.

💡 Tip: Press Command (⌘) + Shift + 5 to open advanced screenshot and recording options on macOS Mojave or later.


Summary

  • Windows: Windows + Shift + S

  • Mac: Command + Shift + 4 (for area) or Command + Shift + 3 (for full screen)
