How to Send Referral In EHR
For Referrals, we use the DirectTrust network for sending referrals.
If a provider does not appear in the database, it means:
They are not part of the DirectTrust network.
Their EHR does not support referrals.
They may be using paper charts.
In such cases, you will need to send referrals via eFax.
We do not have the ability to add any Provider or edit any Provider information in DirectTrust database (except for the Providers using DocVilla).
Sending referrals in DocVilla EHR allows healthcare providers to seamlessly coordinate patient care. Follow these steps to send referral in the EHR:
There are two ways to send referrals in EHR
Through Patient Encounter
Through Patient Profile
Steps to Send Referral in EMR:
Through Patient Encounter
Step 1: Access the Consults Tab
From the main dashboard, click on "Consults.”
Step 2: In the Consults Tab:
Search and select the consult / encounter.
Step 3: Click on “Action”, then select “Send Referral” from the dropdown menu.
Step 4: Fill in the referral details:
Referral From (Referring provider)
Referral To (Receiving provider/specialist)
Referral Reason
Referral Date
Referral Encounter
Referral Notes (You can type the notes manually or use the microphone icon to record notes and auto-fill the text.)
Step 5: If applicable, check the box to send demographics and insurance information along with the referral.
Step 6: Attach any necessary documents:
Encounter Attachments (documents related to the consultation)
External Attachments (additional supporting files)
Step 7: Click “Send Referral” to complete the process.
Through Patient Profile
Step 1: Access the Patient Tab
From the main dashboard, click on “Patient Tab.”
Step 2: In the Patients Tab:
Search and select the patient’s name.
Step 3: Click on “Referral” in the patient’s profile.
Step 4: Under “Patient Referred By”, select the referring provider’s name and click “Save”.
Step 5: Fill in the referral details:
Referral From (Referring provider)
Referral To (Receiving provider/specialist)
Referral Reason
Referral Date
Referral Encounter
Referral Notes (You can type the notes manually or use the microphone icon to record and auto-fill the text.)
Step 6: If applicable, check the box to send demographics and insurance information with the referral.
Step 7: Attach any necessary documents:
Encounter Attachments (documents related to the consultation)
External Attachments (additional supporting files)
Step 8: Click “Send Referral” to finalize and send the referral.
These methods ensure that referrals are processed accurately and securely, enhancing coordination between healthcare providers.
